Katy Perry inspires Priyanka Chopra

Cricketer Suresh Raina might have chosen Kareena Kapoor over Priyanka Chopra’s daring act on the harness when host Gaurav Kapoor asked him to pick one at the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League, but Chopra’s aerial act did manage to leave the audience impressed with
her sheer daredevilry.

Talking about the act, Priyanka says, “The experience was amazing. Since it was a sporting event, I made sure I do something action-packed, hence the entry from the sky and all the stunts.”

However, not many know that the actor’s surprise act on Tuesday was very similar to the one that singer Katy Perry (left) delivered last week, at Nickelodeon’s 25th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles. Like Perry, PC who looked chic in a black and white sequinned top and black pants, was pulled up in the air using the harness as she grooved to the tunes of Don 2.

The audience cheered loudly as the 29-year-old actor’s landed on the stage and danced on her hit numbers including Dhantanaa from Kaminey.

On Wednesday, Katy and PC did a two-hour lunch at Beyond Indus at Taj Club House. They also did an exclusive photoshoot, without allowing anyone else to take any pictures.“Katy was on her way back to Taj Coromandel when Priyanka hailed an auto and jumped onto the drivers seat to take a horrified-looking Katy for a ride around the hotel’s porch,” says a source.

American Singer Katy Perry to hot up IPL opening

Chennai is up for a music treat at the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of Indian Premier League on April 3. Internationally renowned singer Katy Perry is set to perform at the opening.

If the Bollywood razzle-dazzle at the IPL opening at YMCA College of Physical Education in Chennai wasn’t enough, we now have the American singer, songwriter and actress Katy Perry coming to Chennai next week for a gig. There had been talks of an international artist performing at IPL opening, but now the confirmation has come from IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla himself.

Rajeev Shukla says the IPL is going to be bigger this year than it has been in the last four years since its start.

This year, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra will perform a special act at IPL opening. Amitabh Bachchan has been roped in as the host.

Katy Perry, whose singing is in contralto range, had previously come to India in 2010 to get married to the British comedian Russell Brand. She got married in a traditional Hindu ceremony near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan. However, the couple split in December last year.

"During the tour last year, Katy became extremely close to her band and backing dancers. They all lived in each other's pockets and everyone knew how much Katy was suffering not least of all Malik," mirror.co.uk quoted a source as saying.

"Throughout her trip to India, Katy spent a lot of time with him, the pair would often stay up late into the night chatting and drinking in the hotel bar. When they were dancing on stage together, it was clear she only had eyes for him... Malik shot her cheeky winks across the stage and showered her with hugs. Katy was clearly loving the attention," the source added.

Russell Brand, Katy Perry to divorce

British actor-comedian Russell Brand is divorcing ‘California Gurls’ songstress Katy Perry after 14 months of what had appeared to be one of Hollywood`s happier marriages.

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage," Brand said in a statement on Friday. "I`ll always adore her and I know we`ll remain friends."


Brand, 36, offered no other details, but in papers filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, he cited irreconcilable differences.

He and the 27-year-old pop singer were married in October 2010 at a resort inside a tiger reserve in India, and their mutual affection had become a rather sweet feature of the celebrity circuit.

The couple announced their engagement in January 2010 after meeting at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where Brand hosted and she performed.

The comedian, who once struggled with substance abuse and sex addiction, was effusive about his bride while promoting projects earlier this year, saying marrying Perry has "given me much more strength in what I do."

"For a long while, what I do professionally was all that mattered to me really," he said in March. "Now I think, well, whatever I do, I`ll just go back to her, and that`s incredibly comforting."

Perry praised her husband backstage at the 2011 VMAs in August, where she won three awards and he offered a tribute to Amy Winehouse.

"I`m proud of him, whatever comes out of his mouth, and sometimes it`s very colorful, right?" Perry said of Brand. "That`s why I married him, because he`s smart and I learn a lot."

Attorneys for Perry, whose name is listed as Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in the divorce papers, did not respond Friday to calls seeking comment.

The Internet had been abuzz recently with rumors about possible trouble for the couple after they were seen during the holidays without their wedding rings.

Perry`s run of No. 1 singles earned her the distinction of becoming MTV`s first artist of the year earlier this month. She hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ on Dec. 10 and gave no indication any marital woes.

Brand`s recent film credits include ‘Arthur,’ ‘Hop’ and ‘Get Him to the Greek.’ He is among the ensemble starring alongside Tom Cruise in ‘Rock of Ages,’ set for release next year.

Both Brand and Perry were absent Friday from Twitter, where they often shared kind words for each other.
