Riteish-Genelia to wed in Feb

Hyatt Regency, Mumbai booked for three days for the wedding; the Bachchans, Imran Khan, Rana Daggubatti, Sajid Khan, Boman Irani, Ram Gopal Varma and Abbas Tyrewala on the guest list

Nine years and millions of speculations later, the Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'souza love story is all set to find its 'happily ever after' ending. The actors who met during their debut film Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003 will tie the knot in February 2012. According to sources, the date has been set for February 4.

Divulging the wedding plans, a friend of the actors told Mumbai Mirror, "We've been told to keep ourselves free from the third to the fifth of February. The wedding has been finalised for the fourth. They have decided the venue as well. Hyatt Regency has been booked."

"The families have decided to keep it a very low-key affair. So only close family and friends will be invited," added the friend.

The guest list to this low key wedding will include Genelia's friends from Bollywood and the south Indian film industry. "She will invite her Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na co-star Imran Khan and the director Abbas Tyrewala. Her latest Telugu co-star Rana Daggubatti will also be on the guest list," revealed a source.

"Riteish's guests will include the Bachchans, Karan Johar, Boman Irani, Sajid Khan and Ram Gopal Varma," added the source.

According to the source, unlike the buzz in the industry, Genelia would continue with her Bollywood career even after the marriage.

"Riteish's parents have no objection to her working in films," informed the source.

Riteish and Genelia, who had always maintained that they are ‘just friends’ and managed to keep their romance under wraps went public earlier this year by gracing a media event together.

Interestingly, Riteish and Genelia starrer Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, which is currently on the floors, has been scheduled to release in the same week as their wedding.

The filmmakers of Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya are probably looking at pulling a Mani Ratnam, who released his film Guru soon after the Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai engagement was announced. Even after repeated messages, Riteish remained unavailable for comment.

No bans issued against me, says Genelia

Genelia D`souza has rubbished reports that she has been banned from the southern film industry due to her non-cooperative attitude.

A media report said that the Movie Artistes` Association (MAA) of Andhra Pradesh announced that the actress, who has been working in the southern industry for the past eight years, hasn`t sought a lifetime membership with the association despite repeated reminders from the association.

Reacting to this on Twitter page, she wrote: "It`s not nice when people make u a target only because ur strong enough to take it. With no bans or notices issued against me, there`s no reason why there should be this hoopla created."

"I have been travelling constantly over d last few months n hence have informed some1 from my production 2 hand over all d papers w d required amount. When I signed up 4d south Indian association 4 movie artists I was promised that it would cover all 4 industries n that is also what d body states (sic)," she further posted.

Down south, the actress featured in movies like ‘Boys’, ‘Bommarillu’, ‘Santosh Subramaniam’ and in Bollywood she made it big with ‘Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na’. After that she did Hindi films like ‘Life Partner’, ‘Chance Pe Dance’ and ‘Force’.

The 24-year-old hopes people would understand her side of the story.

"I hope people would understand the truth and stop making this an unnecessary battle. I`m very happy n proud that I belong to five industries and hope people understand that," she tweeted.

Genelia wary of on-screen marriage!

Bollywood actress Genelia D’Souza does not want to get married, at least on silver screen. After facing a bitter experience of an on-screen marriage gone horribly wrong in ‘Force’, the actress is cautious about Ekta Kapoor’s ‘Rock The Shaadi’, where she ties the knot with Abhay Deol.

Apparently, the pundit of ‘Force’ allegedly performed actual wedding rituals, claiming John and Genelia as a legitimate married couple.

With ‘Rock The Shaadi’ revolving around marriage, Genelia wants to avoid any further trouble as a source told a daily, “And to avoid any mishaps like the last time, Ekta is taking extra precautions around the sets. She wants the priest to give it in writing that he will not talk to the media or click any picture nor take any footage. The producer doesn`t want Genelia to go through any embarrassment. Only after Genelia was assured that this time there would be no controversy did she agree to sign the film.”

When contacted, the official spokesperson of the film said, “It`s a fun film, revolving around a Punjabi wedding. Given the past controversy, we wanted to be extra careful.”

I’m Bollywood’s college girl: Genelia

Actor Genelia D’Souza, who is known for playing the bubbly, vivacious college girl in most of her films, says she seems to own that spot in Bollywood.

“I seem to own the spot of the college girl in Bollywood. Down south I have been given strong issue based roles.
But here, I don’t get one,” says the 24-year-old actor, who will be next seen opposite John Abraham in Force.

A scene where the actor had to tie the knot with her co-star Abraham in the film, faced controversy after the priest who conducted the on-screen ceremony, claimed that he had read out the actual wedding mantra. But D’Souza, who has been fighting off the rumours of her marriage to good friend Ritesh Deshmukh, says she is tired of clarifying her martial status.

“I am a girl, I have a family, and I also want to get married. I am bothered by rumours about me. It not only affects me, but also my family. We actors have a life, we have a heart and we are lonely, and they should get that straight before doing cheap publicity stunts. It is sad,” says the actor.

On John abraham
We are friends, so it was very comfortable working with him. I had worked with him before in a commercial.

On remakes
I am absolutely fine with remakes. But doing a remake is more difficult than it seems.

I have become more aware about the poverty in India: Genelia

Actress Genelia D`Souza says she has become more aware of the extent of poverty in India after hosting reality TV show 'Big Switch', which featured 10 rich children who gave up their comfortable lifestyles to fulfil the dreams of slum children.

"`Big Switch` was about a rich dreamer giving up his dreams to make another dreamer`s wish come true - helping someone who couldn`t afford to realise his or her dream. I have seen some of the most emotional moments between the rich and poor kids, which has given me a serious reality check in life," Genelia told reporters.

"There`s so much poverty in India, yet the people in slums have the courage to dream. I took up `Big Switch` simply because it was a reality show in good light. The concept exuded positivity, and the soul of the show was very clean," she added.

The show, which aired on UTV Bindass, had its finale Saturday. Genelia played a host, a friend and an advisor to all the children throughout the show. She says she was extremely touched during one episode.

"I have seen the rich kids do some of the sweetest things for their slum friends. I have seen them going to the extent of collecting cow dung with their bare hands - and all this for someone they have no relation with. I had tears in my eyes that day and it really gave me a reality check," the 22-year-old said.

Though Genelia is happy with the way her small screen debut turned out, she isn`t too sure if she will be seen on television shows again soon.

"I haven`t really thought about doing any other shows on TV. Films are my main focus at the moment. I have been working very hard for them," she said.

Genelia has been juggling between the southern film industry and Bollywood for the past five years but it was Imran Khan-starrer `Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na` that brought her to the forefront of Hindi movies.

Her latest movie `Chance Pe Dance`, which paired her with Shahid Kapoor, released to average reviews Friday. Genelia is now working with the likes of Anees Bazmee in `It`s My Life` and David Dhawan-John Abraham in `Hook Ya Crook`.

Asked if there were any specific roles she wanted to do, Genelia said: "I have never planned my career. Whatever comes my way, I try and make the best of it."

Jiah-Genelia war hots up!

After Katrina and Deepika, Genelia D’souza and Jiah Khan are the latest pretty girls in Bollywood who don’t get along.A source tells us, ‘It is only natural that Genelia and Jiah don’t get along because Jiah was originally supposed to do Chance Pe Dance. She shot for it but was unceremoniously replaced by Genelia D’souza because Shahid and Ken weren’t very happy with her behaviour on set or performance. So it is natural for her to harbour hard feeling towards Genelia. Shahid hasn’t said anything about Jiah and used to keep a distance from her on the sets but he is all praise for Genelia, whom he calls G. He has also said that he and Genelia make a good pair. All this hasn’t gone down well with Jiah who was left along to sulk.’

The source adds, ‘This isn’t the only reason why Jiah has problems with Genelia. Jiah’s role in Ghajini was unfairly edited, so she felt she got a raw deal after tom-tomming about bagging such a big film. She felt insulted. It was Aamir who would have put his foot down regarding retaining her role but he didn’t. On the other hand, Genelia had a very meaty role in Aamir Khan’s Jaane Tu yaa Jaane Naa, though the film was supposed to be a show reel for Imran Khan.Clearly, Aamir favoured Genelia as he helped her buy a flat in Mumbai, took care of her, and unlike Jiah, who he romances in Ghajini, went out of his way to support Genelia in a film where she starred with his nephew.’ Poor Jiah hardly has any friends in Bollywood and she hasn’t had an easy run.

What’s worse is that she isn’t media savvy. Miss Khan was replaced by Dia in Tumsa Nahin Dekha, her debut film Nishabd flopped; she was shortchanged in Ghajini and then dropped from Chance Pe Dance. She only has Sajid Khan’s Housefull coming up in which Deepika and Lara are the other heroines. Reportedly, they ostracized her on the sets. Ken Ghosh said, “Jiah did not fit the part in CPD so she was not taken for the film. She has a three film deal with UTV and she’ll have to sort it with them. Genelia was more suited to my film’s character, so she was taken. There is no scene with Jiah.”

Abhishek is touched by Genelia

Genelia is currently in Chennai shooting for a South Film. So she couldn’t make it to the premiere of Abhishek Bachchan’s recent release. However, that didn’t stop Gen from watching the film. On her day off yesterday, she caught the film in a theatre in Chennai.

She absolutely loved the film and also congratulated AB Jr on the film on a social networking site on being part of such a brilliant film. She also told him how much she liked both him and Vidya Balan. And, of course Auro. When Abhishek heard that she went to the theatre he was truly touched.

He told her had he known earlier how keen she was to see his film, he’d have organised a special screening for her and her family in Chennai.
