Gali Gali Chor Hai – Movie Review
Director Rumy Jaffrey, who has done comedies like God Tussi Great Ho and Life Partner earlier, has come out one more entertainer named Gali Gali Chor Hai that carries a clear message to Indian movie goers. But this time, he has chosen a serious subject like corruption and dealt it in a humorous way.
Gali Gali Chor Hai is a satire on corrupt system in India. Akshaye Khanna's superb performance is the major attraction of the movie. Anu Malik's music, Mumukshu Mudgal and Rumi Jaffrey's screenplay and dialogues and Gururaj Jois' camera work are other highlights of the film. It could have even more impressive if the director had given a hard hitting conclusion.
Corruption is seriously debated and discussed topic today. Several movies have made on the story of common man's fight against corruption. But Gali Gali Chor Hai remains as a different attempt as it incorporates the current incidents in the narration. It throws light on corruption, dishonesty and bribery in Indian system.
Gali Gali Chor Hai is all about how an episode changes lives of members of a middle class family living in Bhopal. Although the movie deals with a dark and serious issue, Rumy Jafry makes sure that the focus remains on entertainment. The first half of the film keeps the viewers engrossed with several interesting episodes. It gives away in the post-interval portions, but it soon manages to regain their interest.
Bharat [Akshaye Khanna], is a common man, who is working as a part-time cashier at a bank in Bhopal. He is also a part-time actor, who portrays the role of Hanuman at the local Ramleela skit. Bharat wants to be Ram in Ramleela, but Sattu Tripathi [Amit Mistry] gets the role as he is the younger brother of MLA Manku Tripathi [Murli Sharma]. He starts facing tough time after Sattu is overshadowed by his superior acting skills on stage. What happens next will form an interesting story of the film.
As an aam aadmi, Akshaye Khanna has delivered a natural and unfussy performance. Shriya Saran and Mugdha Godse have less scope in the movie and they have used the available space to show their talents. Satish Kaushik, Annu Kapoor, Murli Sharma, Amit Mistry, Vijay Raaz, Rajat Rawail, Shashi Ranjan and Akhilendra Mishra have also done their respective roles well.
In technical front, Anu Malik's music is the major highlight. His compositions like title track and item song 'Channo...' impress the audience. Mudgal and Jaffrey's dialogues provide lot of humour. Overall, Gali Gali Chor Hai is a good entertainer with a serious message to public.
