Actor Katrina Kaif’s item number in Karan Johar’s upcoming production, Agneepath, is a Hindi remake of a Marathi dance number, Kombadi Palali, from the film Jatra (2006).
Atul Gogavale, one of the composers of the Marathi song, says “Yes, ‘Chikni Chameli’ is a Hindi version of our Marathi
song and we had to make the Hindi version sound even better.”
This is the first time Katrina would be doing a proper item song as Tees Maar Khan (Sheila Ki Jawani) and Race (Zara Zara Touch Me) saw her in meaty roles as well.
"Katrina kaif is doing a full on item song in AGNEEPATH....its a total swinging number called CHIKNI CHAMELI....we shoot it in a week!!" (sic) Karan Johar had tweeted about the item song.
Agneepath, directed by Karan Malhotra, stars Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt. While Hrithik Roshan would be reprising the role of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, Sanjay Dutt will play Kaancha Cheena from the original Agneepath.
Agneepath is the remake of 1990 flick, directed by Mukul Anand, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi and Danny Dengzongpa. It was produced by Karan Johar's father Yash Johar.
Priyanka Chopra had also earlier tweeted, "Saw the new trailer of Agneepath that's gonna come out! Wow!Take a bow karan malhotra!look forward to some sexy surprises u don't expect!fun!" she tweeted.
"Music dance and other 'items' are on the cards...can't say more...except it's sooooper exciting!" she added.
Agneepath will hit theatres on January 26, 2012.
