I don’t need a man to pay my bills..Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia talks about her choice of films, surviving in B-town and her idea of Mr Right in a candid chat

She has given offbeat films a whole new meaning, shedding the common notion that only a serious actor can pull off such roles. She is glamorous and has no reservations about it as she maintains, "If any role I do, turns out to be glamorous, I can't help it, I am glamorous." Here's Neha Dhupia at her candid best.

You are doing "Pappu Can't Dance Saala" with Vinay Pathak...the title sounds interesting... It is. The best thing about the film is that it is so true to life. Anyone who comes to Mumbai comes with a dream. It is about one's dreams in the city of dreams and the many problems one faces here. The biggest one is finding an apartment! Name any actor and he/she will tell how difficult it is to find an apartment in Mumbai. Even Madhuri Dixit will tell you the same. Not just that, it's the story of two people from extremely different backgrounds and all the things that happen when their paths cross.

You have done quite a few offbeat films in the past, be it "Ek Chaalis Ki Local Train" or "Phas Gaya Re Obama"...do you have a 'thing' for such films? Not really. I wouldn't say I have a thing for offbeat films. But I do appreciate and feel proud that I get such movies and such roles to play. I remember when industry people heard that I was going to play a gangster, they were like... 'Really! Neha, as a gangster! What is this film?' And when the film went on to be a success, they took notice. I am glad I proved a point. It is not important that only regular, routine kind of roles always click. To answer your question specifically, I would say I actually have a thing for scripts. There are two things that make or break a film - the script and the audience. If I believe in a script, it is my job to deliver accordingly and once it is accepted well by the audience, the film is complete in the true sense.

Having done many multi-starrers, do you ever give it a thought before signing such films? If you are talking about apprehensions, well, I think every actor has fears. Whether I am doing a solo flick or a multi-starrer, apprehensions are always there, but that does not stop me from signing films that I believe in. Why should I let opportunities go just because they are multi-starrers? I have my own strengths and I guess that's why I get to do more and more work.

Solo films or multi-starrers - what comes with more apprehensions? I would not be able to weigh it in as more or less, I don't think apprehensions can be measured. I rather have a simple answer to this one - I have spent almost eight years in the industry and if I am still offered roles, it means people want to see me more and more. And this process helps me evolve as an actor. It took several years for Vidya Balan to be where she is today. You see, it's important to stay positive.

Talking about Vidya Balan, do you think the 'bold' quotient in cinema is increasing? Isn't there already too much on television? I mean... come on... what are we talking about? TV is a medium more easily available to more people than cinema is and even kids are watching shows which have very bold content. I don't think it is anybody's business to point fingers at the 'bold' quotient in films. At least in movies, they are included as per the requirement of the script.

And adult star Sunny Leone is all set to hit Bollywood... To each his own, I am nobody to comment on that.

The biggest entertainment industry, Bollywood, has many so called 'imports'. Why? It is every director's right or discretion as to choose whoever he/she thinks fit for a certain role. If that means, 'importing', well, like I said, it's that director's choice.

Having spent eight years in Bollywood, one industry secret you could reveal... It's not really a secret, it's more of a fact. Everybody in the industry is busy aping each other. I think it is important to be yourself.

Are you happy and settled in your personal space? Yes, I am very happy in my personal life. And if being 'settled' means having a man in my life to pay all my bills, I am really not looking out for that. If it means any thing else, I am game.
