While there is a question mark being raised on the content of DESI BOYZ, what with the film being given an 'A' certificate, one looks forward to how much of desi girl do we get to see in the film with Deepika Padukone stepping in as the leading lady.
"Well, morally the character that I play is basically a 'desi girl' by all means," smiles Deepika, "After all Indian women are brought up with this certain culture when it comes to marriage and Radhika Awasthi (the character played by me) is no different. I think in that sense, I am every bit a 'desi' in the film."
She is particularly happy to have found company in 'desi boyz' here. "Since Akshay, John and I share some good friendship off the camera as well you would see that chemistry pretty much visible on screen. So even though I may be battling it out with Akshay in the film, it was back to normal with all the jokes and laughter once Rohit (Dhawan) used to say 'cut'," says Deepika.
What she says is pretty much visible though. After all, while she is matching steps along with John in the fun-n-naughty song 'Jhak Maar Ke', she can be seen getting into some spicy banter with Akshay as well.
"All credit to the boys here," says Deepika, "As a writer you could write down something on paper while a director can set his expectations. However eventually it boils down to how an actor performs and I can definitely say that the way Akshay and John have performed based on the written word, it is simply amazing. Their tuning is superb and that was a good push for me too to get the fun rolling for screen."
With her upcoming films being a heady mix of COCKTAIL and RACE, we look forward to some 'desi girl' act in near future at the least.
