Jagjit Singh still critical, say doctors

Renowned Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on Friday, still remains critical.

A statement issued by Lilavati Hospital says, "Mr. Jagjit Singh's condition remains critical. We have to respect the patient privacy and therefore cannot comment further."

The singer was admitted to the ICU reportedly due to a brain hemorrhage. Hospital sources told NDTV that Mr Singh underwent an emergency neurosurgery.

Jagjit Singh has had a history of heart ailments for which he was on blood thinners, which are suspected to have triggered the damage. The 70-year-old singer also suffers from hypertension.

Mr Singh was admitted just hours before he was to perform with another Ghazal maestro, Ghulam Ali, in Mumbai. The maestros were set to croon their trademark songs in Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.

"Performing on the same stage with a legend like Ghulam Ali is an overwhelming feeling all together. I'm thankful to the organisers for their efforts in bringing us together on such a prestigious platform," Jagjit Singh had said in the run up to the show.

The duo recently performed together for the first time in the Delhi edition of the 'Unplugged' concert series.
