The bowler hat of Charlie Chaplin was auctioned off for more than $18,000 at Sotheby’s. The ultimate role model for comedians across the world, Chaplin’s movies and memorabilia are treasured by his admirers all over the globe.
The hat was a distinct part of Charlie Chaplin’s image which he first wore in the 1914 movie ‘Kid Auto Races at Venice’. The bowler hat surely helped Chaplin become one of the most loved and recognizable actors of the silent film era.
The prop also aided the legendary film director and comic actor breathe life into one of his most famous characters, ‘The Tramp.’
Recently, the hat was featured in Sotheby`s Fine Books and Manuscripts auction.
However, Chaplin fans and experts at Sotheby`s were a little surprised as they expected the historic item to fetch an even higher price.
